2022 - Inductee Dave Wike
The image provides the impact in television journalism. Your photography brought us that impact for more than 40 years at KING-TV, Seattle. Your lens captured war, beauty, tragedy and joy. Your images stick with viewers long after the TV is turned off.
KING 5 Photographer Dave Wike was born into, and grew up in, a broadcasting family. His dad, Gene, was an anchor at KING-TV back in the 1960s, after moving over from his anchor job at KIMA-TV in Yakima, where Dave was born.
Dave's broadcast career was much longer than his dad's, but for him, it was behind the camera. His entire career spent at KING TV, it's a job that's lasted for the past 42 years and is still going. He started out as a part-time editor in June of 1980, following graduation from Washington State University, and the Communications Department of the Edward R. Murrow School. By 1982, he was carrying a camera professionally.
Over the past 42 years, he's covered the Iraq war, Boeing's involvement in the Russian aerospace industry following the collapse of the Soviet Union, and Governor Gary Locke's visit to China.
More recently, he and KING 5 reporter Glenn Farley collaborated on projects on the science behind earthquakes and wildfires, informing viewers of how to prepare for these threats.
Married to Lynda for 40 years, they have two daughters and four grandkids, all living in the northwest. He enjoys motorcycles, kayaking, model building---and believe it not, still photography in his off hours.
