2022 Inductee Glenn Farley

For making the complex understandable in the areas of aviation and earth sciences. For empowering the people of the NW to prepare for the risks from earthquakes and wildfires. For 36 years you built on the reporting legacy of KING-TV.

In the mid-1980s, KING-TV in Seattle was looking for a new business reporter. In what would be a lucky break for both KING and Seattle, Glenn Farley’s work at WSMV in Nashville was noticed, and not long after, Glenn and his wife were headed west, and he had found his “forever home” in TV news at KING.

In the 1980s, “business” in Seattle still meant Boeing, and Glenn soon developed expertise in reporting on aviation and aerospace. His ability took him around the world. But through it all, he maintained an objective, critical approach to covering Seattle’s aerospace giant, in particular, and aviation, in general.

Although his news career is closely associated with transportation safety, one other area in which Glenn developed a critical background was the unexpected and dangerous movement of the earth. Glenn did countless stories reporting on major incidents such as the2001 Nisqually Earthquake and the 2014 landslide near Oso, Washington. But he also dug into the causes of major earth movements, the science used in assessing their likelihood and risks, and the things citizens can do to prepare, so they have a better chance of surviving them and their aftermath.
